Name your Baby after a Goddess

Looking for a unique name for your new baby girl? Look no further than the ancient Greeks!

Greek mythology is full of wonderful stories and beautiful names for girls. Besides being different, your daughter will have her own goddess myth to go along with her name.

Does your baby girl seem serious and all knowing? Does she look like a little queen in her bassinette? The name Hera will fit your queenly daughter, since Hera was the queen of all the Greek goddesses and queen of heaven. Hera was the wife of Zeus and the mother of many other goddess and gods such as Ares, Hebe and Eris. She was the goddess of marriage and womanhood.

Maybe your little one makes fierce faces when you try to change her nappies and seems to know what you are saying to her. Athena may be the name for her. Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom and the patron of Athens, a city known for its culture and wisdom. She is portrayed as a virgin warrior; tough and beautiful as well as brilliant. She was also great at crafts such as basket weaving and sewing.

Similar to Athena is Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. Artemis loved her dogs and ran around the forests with fifty of them along with a bunch of wood nymphs. She is the goddess of the moon, and coolly beautiful. She was known as the protector of young women. Her twin brother was Apollo. Does your daughter love her dog? Does she stare into the moon and smile? Maybe the name Artemis is for her.

Calypso sounds like a little girl who loves to dance! Besides having a name and a musical beat named after her, Calypso was a sea nymph, the daughter of a Titan named Atlas (the one holding up the earth). She figures in the story of the Odyssey when she beguiles Odysseus to stay on her island with her and keep her company for seven years. Calypso is usually portrayed as an exotic figure and one name that would suit an unusual baby.

Is your little one always laughing and cooing? Does she have a sunny nature? The name Thalia would fit. Thalia was a goddess of beauty and one of the three graces. Her name meant good cheer. Or maybe her sister Euphrosyne, meaning mirth would suit her, although that name is a mouthful, and probably would be tough for a young one to learn how to spell!

Lastly, there is Penelope. She wasn’t a goddess, but she was a woman of strong moral character. She was the long suffering wife of Odysseus who stayed true to her man for many, many years, while he was out having adventures and flings with beautiful women.

This article only touches on the many names available to use for naming your baby girl taken from the ancient Greeks. Dive into any volume of Greek mythology and you may find a name you love, that is unique and fits your special girl.

Free Logo Design

A logo is the graphic element of a trademark or brand, which is set in a special typeface or arranged in a particular, but legible, way. The shape, color and typeface of a logo have to be different from others in a similar market.

A logo is a tangible reflection of an organization’s personality. In recent times, the term ‘logo’ has been used to describe emblems, signs, symbols and even flags. It has to be unique to avoid confusion in the marketplace among clients, suppliers, users, affiliates, and the general public. One of the most effective ways of protecting it is through registering your logo as a trademark, so that no unauthorized third parties can use it, or interfere with the owner’s use of it.

While large corporations spend thousands of dollars to update and implement their logos, many small businesses will turn to local graphic designers to do a corporate logo. These days there is a lot of software available on the market which can help you create your own logo. You can also download basic graphics from different sites. You can choose the design template of your choice and create your own free logo design. The process requires you to download and install logo design software. You then need to choose a logo template, add new logo objects, customize colors and designs, adjust the overall logo and print your new logo at no cost.

Remember that a good logo is unique and is not similar to any other company’s. It has to be functional and should look good on a business card and on products. An attractive logo creates a unique identity for a company, and a little research and effort can help you develop a beautiful logo at the lowest possible cost.

Using Twitter to Promote Your Silent Auction

If you are running a charity and haven’t started using the power of Social Media then it is time to get started. There are so many advantages to having a presence in Social Media that it would fill a book, but we are going to talk about that here, we focusing on just trying to promote your silent auction through using just Twitter, not even your Facebook Fan Page.

First thing to do is try to start the buzz for your silent auction event way before it is ever happening. Start with sending out updates to when the auction will be taking place. But the goal here is to try to keep it vague. You want to have a reason for your twitter followers to want to click on your link leading to your website. It isn’t enough to just put up that you have made a new blog post. It has be intriguing and make people almost not feel complete without clicking on the link in your tweet. For example you could do something of the following:

(Your Charity) gets involved with Elves, Turkeys & Lots of Wine, What is Going ON? (put the link here)

Now from this tweet it is hard to not be curious to what exactly you are talking about. It sounds so ludicrous, that to just let that tweet go on by is not going to be easy. Anybody would want to see what is going on with this. When the person lands on the weblink you included with the tweet you will want to take them to a page that is a blog post about your upcoming Christmas gala, where of course you will probably have Christmas decor, some turkey to eat and then of course a bar. Once they get to the page there is a sense of relief to finding out it is a silent auction. However it is a great idea to have people be placed on your charities mailing list to see about further information coming out soon.

Once people start to join your mailing list you can see if they can help you with getting items donated or getting them involved one way or another. The goal here is to develop the relationship through twitter and then move them to your mailing list, where they can keep up with all of the things you will be doing at your charity event.

Another way to use Twitter once you start getting items in for your silent auction is to tweet about the items that will be on display. This might encourage people to want to attend just so they can bid on that item. While at the same time it is giving your charity more exposure for the event, while still sending out interesting tweets and not just boring everyday news.

There are many other ways to really get your charity exposure on twitter for the upcoming silent auction but you will just have to get creative. One that seems to work really well is using the power of tweetpic and doing a kind of picture diary of the setting up of the event all the way to the end of the event and breaking it down. Doing updates every day or so, people will tend to wait for your tweets if this is the case, and pictures and videos have a lot better chance of being retweeted than say regular text will ever have.

How To Write Good Doctor Reviews

Doctor reviews can help a lot when people are trying to find a physician. People can use these sites to read what others who have been to the clinic said. This works like a recommendation or warning. It’s a modern version of “word of mouth.” Whenever you visit a clinic, you should tell the rest of the world about your experience there. Here are some tips for writing comments that will help.

Read Over And Correct

When you’re writing doctor reviews, be extra careful to use the correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. Too many people write these comments like they’re text messaging a friend. The people reading your comments aren’t your friends necessarily; they’re more than likely strangers, and if your comments are full of mistakes they’ll think you’re an idiot and discard your critique. They’re looking for information from a source they can trust, and you’ll ruin their confidence in you if you write badly. It doesn’t have to be great literature; just go over what you wrote, run it through spellcheck, and double-check anything you’re not sure about.

Focus On What’s Important

You should describe what happened to the best of your ability in your doctor reviews. However, you don’t have to include every detail. Try to focus on just the things that are important. After you’ve written your comment and before you post, go back over it and with each detail, think to yourself, “Would this information help somebody?” Also remember that most people are not going to read an extremely long comment. If there are shorter comments, they’ll naturally read those first. Give all the pertinent details, but also try to make it short and to-the-point. This will increase the chances that it will get read and benefit someone.

Be Fair to the Doctor

The whole purpose of doctor reviews is to tell other patients about your experience at the clinic. But you should also keep in mind that what you say could really have an impact on their business. In recent years, these sites have become really popular. This means that more and more people are basing their decisions on what these comments say. If you’re going to say something negative about a physician, make sure you understand that this might hurt their business. On the other hand, if you thought they did a wonderful job, keep in mind while writing that you’re helping to promote them.

Think About Yourself

The best guideline when writing doctor reviews is to imagine this: what do you wish you’d known before you went to this clinic? Write to yourself from the past and tell them whatever they need to know. This is the best way to write quality comments that will actually give key information to others just like you.

Writing reviews of doctors helps a lot of people. Be sure that each time you visit a new clinic, you write about it in detail so that you can help others make their decisions. It’s also a great idea to sign up for several of these sites. That way, your comments will be read more widely and you’ll make more of a difference.

Stephanie Ericsson, "The Ways We Lie"

In “The Ways We Lie,” by Stephanie Ericsson, the author depicts the many ways humans lie and justifies the reasons for doing so. There is the white lie, which is basically telling a harmless untruth instead of a harmful truth. Facades are basically changing your personality while ignoring the plain facts, as the title implies, is a false action done with the intent to deceive. Deflecting is not answering the question at all; it is being up-front about comfortable issues and not revealing the couple of very important issues that changes everything.

The omission is simply when you don’t say anything instead of lying; this changes history as it did in the omission of Lilith from the Bible. Stereotypes create lies because a group of peoples actions, just like group think, caused bad disasters such as Pearl Harbor. Out-and-out lies are straightforward, and dismissal is simply avoiding the lie all together. It’s seems that Ericsson believes lying is important in order to not hurt peoples feelings and to be successful and happy.

I agree with Ericsson to an extent. It is true that lying may cause hurt feelings and a simple, harmless mis truth would have solved that problem. However, the author also states that she tried to go weeks without lying and she found it almost impossible. I believe that this shows the author might be a compulsive liar, and thus all the justifications she gave us were lies as well. Either way, lies are important, just not when you lie all the time.

Starcraft 2 Baneling Rush Build Order

In order to use the Starcraft 2 baneling rush strategy effectively enough to subdue an opponent, your timing has to be very precise! This means you cannot be slowed down by a bad build order. If the Starcraft 2 baneling rush build order you decide to use gets the wrong upgrades at the wrong time, it will usually result in the timing of your attack being too late or not strong enough to do any real damage.

Here is the best Starcraft 2 baneling rush build order I’ve been able to find thus far:

10/10 -> Build Drones

12/10 -> Double Extractor Trick to build 2 more Drones

12/10 -> Build first Overlord

14/18 -> Build an Extractor with 3 drones mining

15/18 -> Build a Spawning Pool

15/26 -> Build a Roach Warren

15/26 -> Build a Queen

17/26 -> Build a Zergling

17/26 -> Build a Zergling

19/26 -> Build a Baneling Nest

19/26 -> Build another Overlord

19 – 28 -> Build Roaches to support Banelings

The banelings need to go in first in order to break any kind of wall your opponent might be locked up behind. This means sending them in mass numbers to make sure that your baneling rush doesn’t get deflected quickly. Have a few roaches ready to support the attack as soon as it hits your opponent’s base.

The roaches are very important simply because you cannot expect success relying on one unit alone such as the baneling. The baneling’s damage is great but also limited since it only has one suicide attack. Take advantage of this suicide attack by using it to take out large groups of infantry, then immediately move into roaches to kill off the remaining couple of units and destroy your opponent’s buildings.

"1001 Nights in Iraq" by Shant Kenderian

There’s a popular saying that “truth is stranger than fiction.” In the case of Shant Kenderian, the saying certainly applies. In his nonfiction book (once the most popular selling book on BookSurge before being picked up by publisher Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster), Kenderian recounts his own tale of being drafted to fight a war against his own country.

Born in Iraq as an Armenian Christian (already an outsider in a country populated with Muslims), when his parents divorced, Kenderian went to live with his mother and siblings in Chicago. Like many children of divorce, he felt torn between his parents, and after two years of living in the United States, he decided to go to Iraq for a brief visit in 1980. His goal was to see his father and reconcile their acrimonious relationship (because of his parents’ divorce) before returning (after his two week visit) to the US to complete his schooling. Days before he was due to return to the US, Saddam Hussein closed all the Iraqi borders, ordering all men of draft age (between 17-55) into service to fight for Iraq in the Iran-Iraq War. Under the threat of execution for refusing to serve, Kenderian did his time in the Iraqi Navy and returned to Baghdad, where he continued his studies in engineering while awaiting the issuance of his green card from the US Embassy that would allow him to return home.

Two days before he was scheduled to depart Iraq, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, thus pulling Kenderian into yet another war (Desert Storm) before he could leave. Thus begins the saga that is recounted in 1001 Nights in Iraq. As an Iraqi-born US resident, Shant Kenderian was put in the unenviable position of being forced to fight against the country he loved and considered his own-the United States.

Kenderian recounts with depressing detail his time as an engineer aboard a ship in the Iraqi Navy just off the coast of Kuwait. Forced to service the ship with only a wrench and screwdriver, Kenderian tells of the depravity faced by most soldiers on the Iraqi side of the conflict. Of his crew, only 2 Iraqis of 15 had guns of any sort; Kenderian himself had none. Food was scarce, as were any other sort of supplies. Every day was a nightmare in which the Iraqi soldiers expected death at any moment by the Americans.

Clearly, Kenderian had to do something to change his fate, and so he devised a plan-to surrender to the Americans at the earliest opportunity. Kenderian thus hoped to plead his case as a US resident forced to participate in a war not of his own choosing on a side he would not have selected. Kenderian eventually did get captured by the Americans, but not before his ship struck a mine, killing several of his Iraqi crewmates. However, even his capture by US forces meant extreme hardship. As a prisoner of war (POW), again and again, he was interrogated, forced to live in difficult conditions, and plead his desperate case, to return to his family in the United States.

Despite this unbelievable story, Kenderian never lost his sense of humor, his humanity for others (Iraqi or otherwise), or his faith in God that he would eventually be returned to the country he considered home. Only a man of real courage and compassion could have survived this ordeal to tell this story of resilience and hope. Through his book, Kenderian has opened the door into a world few Americans understand or have experienced. His story been featured on public radio’s This American Life, and truly it is a unique one.

Which Dart Board? Bristle vs Electronic Dart Boards

A dart board is a great accessory for any games room or home bar, but how do you decide between the myriad bristle and electronic dart boards on sale? Do you go for a traditional bristle dart board, or opt for a modern electronic board? This article outlines the qualities of different types of dart boards, to help you make that decision. Whatever you decide, your new dart board is sure to provide your friends and family with hours of entertainment over many years. Being able to play darts in your own home is a huge amount of fun!

Quality bristle dart boards are made from African sisal fibers, which have the unique ability to self-heal, or close up, each time darts are removed from the surface, so there won’t be any visible holes from dart tips. A well made board will be regulation size of 18 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches thick. Good features to look for include rotating wire numbers, which help prolong the life of a board, and staple free bulls eye wire to help eliminate bounce-outs. To play on a bristle dartboard you’ll need to use steel tip darts. Dartboards can be mounted onto a backboard or displayed in a specially designed cabinet to protect the surrounding walls from being hit by mis-thrown darts.

Electronic dart boards are increasingly popular, using the latest technology to enable automatic scoring, score displays for multiple players, sound effects and a huge choice of different games. Most have playing surfaces that require players to use soft tip darts, which have the advantage of being softer and safer for younger members of the family. Some modern versions have a specially adapted surface that is suitable for both types of darts, depending on your personal preferences and throwing techniques. Most electronic boards enable a single player to play against the computer, which is great for practicing your skills.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, and other factors such as the look of your dart board and how it will match your décor, need to be considered too. But whether you opt for a traditional bristle board for that authentic appearance, or go for the useful additional features of an electronic board, you’re sure to have hours of fun playing darts!
