Why Is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Such A Popular Discussion Topic

Search engine optimization is one of the most discussed and controversial topics on the internet today. Also, it is one of the most misunderstood topics.

In its basic form, search engine optimization (SEO) is act of altering a web site so that it does well in the organic, crawler-based listings of search engines.

Now even this quick to the point definition of search engine optimization (SEO) can lead to spirited debates about the meaning and purpose of SEO.

So the question maybe asked, why is SEO such a popular and controversial topic that causes so much debate within the SEO community and the general internet population particularly website owners? In my humble opinion there are 6 reasons why Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has the popularity that it currently enjoys.

1. Targeted Website Traffic – If you ask the vast majority of website owners and people within the SEO industry what is the most important factor to a successful website business and/or operation. A large percentage of the people will say website traffic and even more specifically targeted website traffic.

Currently on the internet, the largest resource for targeted website traffic on a continuous bases are search engines. On a yearly bases stats show that around 75% – 80% of all purchases made by individuals on the internet originally started as a result of a search at a search engine and the vast majority of people who visit websites usually come via way of a search engine. Numbers so dominate cannot be ignored even by the biggest opponents of search engine optimization. Moreover, because SEO is focused on optimizing websites for ranking success related to search engines, it is only natural that people would be interested in the field and practice of search engine optimization (SEO).

2. SEO Controversy – Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the most controversial topics concerning internet website operations. The proponents of SEO can say that it provides a viable method for websites to be seen in search engines which is important for any website desiring traffic on the internet today.

However, opponents disgusted with SEO can also say that many websites achieve high search engine visibility without the use of SEO work and that SEO professionals only provide guess work high cost services that provide no assurances for search engine ranking success.

This situation, which has some merit concerning the arguments on both sides, generates heated debates between proponents of SEO and SEO opponents on a continuous bases which is fought out on a daily bases on forums, blogs, websites and newsletters across the internet along with exposure in magazines and on TV.

Simply put controversy produces attention and whether you like it or hate it, SEO really does provide a great deal of controversy. Moreover, as long as search engines play a dominant role in generating targeted website traffic, SEO will continue to be a popular topic.

3. Money – Search engine optimization is a multi million-dollar business. Search engines generate billions of dollars each year through advertising. Websites earn billions of dollars for their owners each year via using search engines either through paid advertisements or organic (free) listings in search results.

It is no wonder with billions of dollars on the table on a yearly bases that anything that can provide an individual or company a competitive edge in the ultra high pace internet world will be a hot topic for discussion and debate.

Moreover, through a combination of perception and reality that highlights search engine optimization as a key to increasing internet sales, search engine optimization is a very popular topic for decision makers within many companies which provides additional attention to SEO in the business world and beyond.

4. No Standard SEO Rules or Regulations – Search engine optimization (SEO) can be described as a modern version of the wild wild west. Basically almost anything can be said or done because there are no formal set standards for the industry as a whole.

Therefore, in a true sense, no one is really right or wrong concerning any thoughts, comments or decisions concerning SEO techniques and/or methods. Right or wrong is replaced by what is considered ethical by individuals and everyone has a unique set of ethics. What one person might consider unethical someone else might consider completely honest, well intended assistance. This is why you have labels such as white hat and black hat SEO within the SEO industry.

5. Search Engines – Search engine optimization was created as a by-product resulting from the development, utilization and popularity of search engines. Without search engines, there is no SEO industry in its current form and format.

As statistics on a yearly bases confirm, the majority of the targeted website traffic on the internet is generated directly or indirectly via search engines and a very high percentage of internet sales are directly linked to visitors coming from search engines looking for products and/or services.

With the dominant role that search engines play on the internet and the fact that the success of search engines depend on the ability to provide accurate and reliable search results to its visitors, successful search engines tend to develop an informal relationship with the SEO industry.

Whereby a certain amount of SEO work on websites tends to help search engines provide what its visitors are looking for which is top-notch search results.

For this reason, sometimes search engines will provide SEO information and SEO recommendations to its visitors directly on the search engines. This helps the SEO industry tremendously by placing the industry in the forefront of the main people that are interested in organic (free) search results which are the search engine users looking for something specific and the website owners who want to be found in the search engine results.

6. SEO Mystery – Almost no SEO professionals will explain what they do regarding SEO work in detail. Some will provide a little SEO information, which is mainly done as marketing efforts for the SEO professionals in forums, blogs and newsletters. Even the e-books and books that are sold only explain SEO in a general nature. Search engine optimization (SEO) is truly a mystery to the average website owner and/or people interested in organic search engine rankings.

This mystery produces a high level of interest regarding the SEO industry and helps feed the popularity of search engine optimization (SEO).

Exquisite Jewellery of Solihull – The History

Most sources quote the company manufactured jewellery from the sixties to the seventies. However this is untrue. Exquisite jewellery was produced by the company called W A P Watson Ltd. here is the companies time line:

1909 to 1914 – Walter Archibald Parker Watson had a small factory in Hockley Hill, Birmingham manufacturing chains and then gilt jewellery.

1914 W A P Watson sold his company to Augustus Harry Power and Clarence Oswald Flint. They kept the name and subsequently became W A P Watson LTD

1914 to 1934 Following the First World War, Messrs Power and Flint became skilled in producing costume jewellery. The original number of employees was 6 and it was during this time the range of jewellery was named Exquisite.

1934 The company with its 125 employees moved to Hampton Street in the Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. They also had premises in Mary Street. Now not only producing jewellery but also crested souvenirs.

1937 to 1954 W A P Watson ceased manufacturing jewellery during the Second World War but concentrated on helping the war effort. Following the war, Exquisite jewellery and the souvenirs production continued. But with increased demand and the confined space available in the Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, the Powers looked for larger premises. Augustus son’s Wallis and Jack had now become the managing directors

1954 to 1977 The company moved in 1954 to Vulcan Road Solihull. Expanded and introduced the Mirella trade name of gold plated picture frames, mirrors, pens and small pill boxes. The name Mirella came from one of their employees. Crystal was introduced into their product manufacturing. At their peak the company produced 20,000 pieces of jewellery under the Exquisite name. Famous for their Birthday and Scottish range – beautifully hand enameled brooches, necklaces and earrings.

1977 The Exquisite Jewellery range was stopped due to the competition of the high import of cheaper jewellery from the East. However the crested souvenir range was expanding as more people were able to take holidays in the UK and abroad. Spoons, bells, letter openers, thimbles were available in all the tourist gift shops across the UK

1977 to 1989 The company had to reduce employees as they struggled to survive the recession and competition. They produced new ranges of Collector’ Keepsakes – thimbles, letter openers and bells. Also leather goods under the name of Manor Leather craft.

1989 to 2000 The Crystal Flame range of silver and gilt animals with a crystal became popular and eventually developed into the Tudor Mint range. The popular Myths and Magic range of medieval figures and characters took off and still is very collectible today

2000 onward The Solihull factory closed in the early 2000’s as the company moved to the USA to expand the Tudor Mint range. In 2007 the company sold this to the Xystos group but still retains a holding company of The Watson Group Limited in Shirley Solihull.

W A P Watson left a large amount of collectible and beautiful jewellery. Many ranges are available and matching pieces.

Tips For Choosing A Sectional Sofa

A sectional sofa is a perfect addition for anyone’s living room. It is the perfect place to feel cozy and comfortable around friends while watching a movie or a football match. Since their popularity has increased in the recent years, so is their diversity. Picking the right sectional may be a matter of taste, but there are several general guidelines to follow. Stick with them and you will soon relax in the sectional you always wanted.

The first thing to do is to determine the size and shape of the sectional. Basically there are three sectional shapes available: the U-shape, the semi-circular shape and the L-shape. Pick the shape you like the most. But this is only the first step. Sectionals are modular and can include 3, 4 or even more sections. Ordering customized sofas may allow you to add multiple modules. Of course, the cost will be higher. It is recommended to draw a floor plan of the room where you want to place the sectional. Next, add the shape and size and see which configuration suits you most. For example, you may want a larger side of a sectional, in order to cover more space to the walls.

Consider the use and the object placement of the room. For example, if the TV sits across a corner of the room, a sectional is the best solution. In this case the rounded corner provides lots of seating, and everybody can easily watch the screen. The only problem with semicircular sectional is that it takes a lot of space. Measure the room exactly before placing an order. If you choose an L-shaped sectional rather than a rounded one, beware the disadvantages of the one-cushion square corner. It will be the very last seat people want. It is now the time to remind you that reversible sectionals offer the freedom of change, allowing you to switch the placement of the chaise whenever you want. This provides a better space management.

When you buy a sofa, comfort is everything. And comfort is largely dependent of the fabric used to make the furniture. Fabrics with natural fibers like cotton, linen and flax are breathable, are comfy and get softer with use. Similarly, go natural with leather for a timeless look and soft, buttery feel. Personal style should also be a priority. You can opt for vintage, classical sofas and for modern sofas, as well. You just have to browse the internet and find the style and colors that appeals you the most.

Natural Juices Not As Healthy As May Seem – Study

Natural juices are rich in fructose, unlike water or low fat milk, according to Dr. Richard Johnson from the University of Florida College of Medicine. Researchers believe that fructose may trigger obesity for humans.

Previous studies connected excessive drinking of soft drinks and fruit juices with a high risk of diabetes, blood pressure, or obesity, said Johnson. Glucose sends signals to the body to produce insulin, a hormBMI calculator, calorie counter, carbs counter, calorie calculator, diet planner, menu planner, workout planner, weight loss, weight loss tools, nutritional information, nutrition labelone that tells the brain when to stop eating and turns sugar into energy. Fructose does the opposite and causes resistance to insulin, said Johnson.Weight gain may appear when large amounts of fructose are consumed over a long period of time, according to Peter Havel, an endocrinologist at the University of California.

Some natural juices have larger amounts of sugar than sodas. For instance, apple juice has more fructose than a soda, said Havel. A cup of apple juice has twenty more calories than the same amount of soda, according to the Department of Agriculture Nutrient Data Laboratory.

High-fructose corn syrup or fructose may lead to high levels of uric acid in the body. Dr. Johnson and his research team showed in a previous study on lab mice that a high-fructose diet leads to insulin resistance and the body produces more uric acid. Glucose does not cause the same problems, said Johnson.

Too much natural juice may also increase the children’s risk of bone fractures.

Grier’s Almanac: 200 Years of Service

One of my favorite “reads” are almanacs. From the formerly named Information Please almanac to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, these handy paperback books contain a wealth of information on virtually any subject, particularly the more generalized tomes such as Information Please.

In November 2005, I visited my locally owned drugstore and found that they had free copies of Grier’s Almanac available for customers. Similar in design to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, I took a copy home with me.

Although not peppered with stories such as can be found in the Old Farmer’s Almanac, Grier’s contains the usual “zodiac” information which farmers in time’s past would rely on to help them determine when to plant. In addition, you can find information on daily weather predictions, a fishing calendar, an exhaustive list of holidays for the year, and interesting chronological information on events that happened on particular dates throughout history. In the back of the almanac is a section devoted to all kinds of classified ads.

As with most almanacs in this particular genre, Grier’s has its share of ads. Some are helpful and include ads for insurance and gardening, while others are bizarre and include ads for oils and candles to help make your opposing lawyer stupid. Okay, if it works than that is great!

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Grier’s is that 2006 represents their 200th anniversary edition. For two straight centuries the almanac has been published including throughout the Civil War period, a remarkable feat indeed.

Grier’s is written for the southern states only from Virginia to Texas. As mentioned, copies are free and can be found in many drugstores, feed and seed establishments, and retail outlets throughout the south. Annual circulation reportedly exceeds three million copies.

Congratulations to Grier’s Almanac Publishing Company of Atlanta for 200 consecutive years of service!

7 Commonest Office Chair Annoyances – Tips For Resolving Them

Sometimes little things on an office chair are really annoying and they can drive you nuts trying to solve them. In this article I look at the top 7 annoyances and how to easily fix them.

Chair Keeps Sinking

Office chairs sink for 2 reasons, first because the pneumatic lift is worn out and is no longer able to carry any weight. When this happens the only answer is to replace the faulty lift and you need to contact the chair supplier to get a replacement.

The second reason this happens is usually because the height adjustment lever is damaged or out of alignment as a result what happens is the gas lift is permanently set to release any weight applied and so forces it to sink.

Turn your chair over and see if the lever is misaligned, sometimes all it needs is for the lever to be pressed back into position.

If the chair is a number of years old you may be faced with having to replace it where parts aren’t available or the overall condition of the chair is poor.

Squeaking Office Chair

When your office chair squeaks it can be really frustrating, especially when you can’t work out why it’s doing it.

Squeaks and creaks commonly have 2 sources, first any metal to metal contact typically where the back attaches to the chair seat. If this is the case try exposing the moving parts and coat those with a light spray of WD40 be careful not to get any on the chair’s upholstery.

The other common cause is loose fixings securing either the back or the mechanism to the seat, look for any large fixings and tighten them all up. Some of these may be concealed and not readily accessible with the risk of damage attempting to remove covers, so take care when trying to take them off.

Loose Gas Lift Post

This most commonly affects new chairs, when you pick up the chair to move it the top falls away from the bottom.

The gas lift post is made to wedge into the base or chair seat, if it’s come out, wipe off any oil or grease place it back together and sit down heavily in your chair and this should jam them together properly.

Static Shocks Getting Out of Chair

Static electricity shocks are unpleasant and can be quite difficult to resolve as they sometimes originate from your chair’s upholstery, clothing and more frequently from your office carpet.

Air conditioning can make things worse as it dries the air and increases the build up of static and the chance of getting a shock.

A portable humidifier can help reduce static as the moisture released lowers the likelihood of static building up. Some clothes are also more likely to create static problems, so see if a change of outfit helps.

If all else fails try gripping a metal part of your desk or chair before you get up and continue holding onto it before moving, this can ground the electrical charge.

Office Chair Height Setting Issues

Most office chairs are made to fit the average person which generally means people between 5 foot 6 inches and 6 foot.

However, people either side of these heights often find the seat’s height doesn’t work for them. Tall people end up with their legs pointing uncomfortably upwards whereas small built people discover their feet can’t be placed firmly on the floor.

Neither is desirable often all thats required is to replace the gas lift with a higher or lower version, so speak with the chair supplier and ask if they offer different lift options.

A foot rest is another alternative for smaller built individuals.

Office Chair Back No Longer Reclines

When you have an office chair where the back has stopped reclining it’s highly likely the back has been accidentally set to the locked position. A lot of chair backs are designed to move back and forward as you move and also include a function letting you lock the back in a pre-set position.

If you are having this problem it’s highly likely the chair back has been set locked. To release it try moving the control levers on the chair’s underside, you may need to lean back slightly to apply some weight before the locked position can be released.

Chair Back Won’t Stop Reclining All the Time

There are 2 possible problems here, first if the back doesn’t move and is leaning back significantly it’s likely the back is locked off at full recline so just follow the suggestions in the previous topic to release it.

The other situation happens when leaning back in you chair it just seems to fall away immediately with little or no resistance. This could be the result of a faulty mechanism, however it may also be because the chair’s tension adjustment isn’t correctly set up.

Look under the chair for a round knob at the middle of the front, try turning this clockwise and increase the tension of the back this will help stiffen resistance when you recline.

Conclusion

This covers the commonest problems found on office chairs and hopefully helped fix a problem. Where a chair is a number of years old or low quality you may have little option other than accepting replacing it is the best course of action.

Ace Reid Cowpoke

An invitation from Ace Reid to come for a visit to see if they were compatible to work together was the start of this book. Author John R. Erickson’s three-day visit to the Draggin’ S Ranch outside of Kerrville, Texas turned into three-weeks and then three months. Mr. Erickson spent this time interviewing people who knew Mr. Reid, going through scrapbooks of newspaper clippings and photographs as well as spending time with Ace Reid, himself. An autobiography of sorts complimented with tales, truths and amazing artwork that is synonymous to the Ace Reid name, has been brought together in the pages of this book.

Ace Reid Cowpoke is a sharing of his life with the rest of the world. A rendition that is both serious and funny about the man who was a cartoonist, public speaker, artist, prankster and cowboy. This book gives the reader a front row seat into the life of the artist on his road to fame.

The author takes you from the time of Mr. Reid’s birth to the 1980’s when the interview for the book took place. School years, ranching with his father, time spent in the Navy, and days on the road promoting his work; all the while he was honing his skills as a respected and well-known artist/cartoonist. Mr. Erickson has done an excellent job of introducing the man who has brought the reality of the western lifestyle to people around the world. Through his books of cartoons, calendars and note cards; all depicting some form of dry witted western humor, Ace Reid’s take on life is evident and the words of this book confirm that.

An observation of work done by this artist is that if you look at the picture and have lived it or know someone who has lived it, you will see the humor in them. If you have no inkling of what is going on in the picture, perhaps these cartoon books are not for you, yet.

Take the time to read Ace Reid Cowpoke and get to know the man, his life and his humor. Understanding the lanky stature cowboy with the brawny face named Jake who has become famous in Ace Reid cartoons, will surely follow.
